molybdenum tube (MOLY TUBE) is a tubing material that has a low thermal expansion coefficient, high thermal conductivity and is a good choice for transmitting heat from a hot surface to a cooler one. This is especially important in the heating industry and in the production of ceramics, glass, semiconductors, or any type of electronic device where heat is needed to operate.

Typical Applications

Commonly used in the refractory and thermal processing industries, it is also found in the chemical, aerospace and nuclear energy industries where its ability to resist high temperatures is crucial. It is a common alloying element in many types of steel, cast iron and superalloys (steel) to increase hardenability, strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.

Recrystallization Temperatures

The transition temperature between brittle and ductile is a critical factor for determining the mechanical properties of a metal. Various factors affect the transition temperature including the degree of deformation, chemical composition and the presence of oxide particles (e.g., lanthanum oxide).

Alloys

The molybdenum nitride is harder than pure molybdenum and exhibits very good machinability. Its hardness and compressibility are comparable to those of ceramics. The nitride also has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as a low melting point and a relatively low vapor pressure.

Refractory materials

Molybdenum is a soft, ductile refractory material that is used in thermocouple sheaths, especially at very high temperatures. It is also an excellent choice for heat sinks and for heating elements, electrodes, stirrers, orifice plates, support members, mandrels, shields, sintering trays, furnace windings, jet tabs, contacts, brazing fixtures, boring bars, tools and other applications where high temperature resistance is required.
